If you’re decorating on a budget, focus on creating layers that tie back to the theme. I started by filling the wall with silver stars to build a base. This silver star garland ($13.99) comes with 130 feet of stars connected on one string, so you can cut and customize it to fit your vision. 

I wanted my stars to hang from the ceiling and down to the drinks table, so I measured the distance and cut 12 strands to fill that section of the wall.

Then, I added 40-inch foil number balloons ($4.99 to $6.99 each) to celebrate the upcoming year. I secured the stars with clear tape and the balloons with painter’s tape, and both lasted well into the next day.

I had a vision of an epic New Year’s countdown culminating with champagne cascading down a pyramid of coupe cups, and I knew I had to bring it to life. I used a large stainless steel tray (this one is almost identical and only $20) as the base of the tower and to catch any champagne spills (inevitable when attempting the perfect pour). 

Initially, I toyed with the idea of buying real coupe glasses for a more elegant effect, but thankfully, my mom talked me out of it. Just the thought of one glass toppling over and shattering everything below was enough to scare me out of the idea. 

Instead, I opted for a set of plastic coupe cups ($0.72 each) with grooved bases for easy stacking. It was a genius alternative. Not only did it look *almost* identical to the real thing, but it also saved me from a lot of stress and cleanup when the first few attempts of the tower toppled over.

I wanted the coupe tower to be a moment, so I added pearl stickers (less than $9) to the tops and black velvet bows ($6.99) on the stems. I’m not going to lie, placing each pearl sticker by hand and tying each ribbon took a long time. All night, actually. But the final result was so worth it! The tower was a hit with my guests, and it made for a scroll-stopping Instagram moment.
