This is your sign to (finally) paint your brick fireplace✨

If I’m being totally honest, this fireplace makeover was a daunting DIY.

On the one hand, the brick 🧱 was discolored and cracking (basically pleading for a makeover!)

On the other hand, the original brick added character to the house 🏡 and we HATE losing character.

Ultimately, we couldn’t figure out how to incorporate the outdated fireplace in our home design, so we grabbed a paint brush and started working!😅

LIME VS. ACRYLIC 🎨

Lime Paint = a mineral paint that absorbs into the brick. It has a thin consistency and buildable coverage. This is a perfect option if you want the “whitewash” look.

Acrylic Paint = a water-based paint that sits on top of the brick (more prone to cracking). It comes in a ton of colors and is a great option if you want to customize the brick color to match your decor style/space.

We tried both paint options, and here’s our conclusion:

The lime paint is a STARK color, so be sure to dilute it with water to create a whitewash. Otherwise, acrylic is your best bet. We haven’t noticed any cracks after 1 year, but it’s still too soon to tell how it will hold up over time.

Ok let’s talk kitchen cabinets 🗣️ with all the design choices and measurements required, it can feel IMPOSSIBLE to pick the right ones!🥵

Here are our TOP 5 beginner-friendly tips on kitchen cabinet selection:

1️⃣ Determine your budget💸 before you fall head over heels with any cabinets, set a realistic budget. Remember, the cabinets are just one component of the kitchen renovation. Make sure you’re considering the entire renovation budget before locking in!

2️⃣ Plan out your kitchen layout and flow 📐 first determine your layout, then use the layout to guide your cabinet choices. If you have a small kitchen, you may want to prioritize more storage. If you’re adding a window, you’ll probably need more base cabinets than uppers. Make sure your cabinets accommodate your space, not the other way around!

3️⃣ Select a cabinet style 🖼️ from contemporary to shaker doors, and overlay to inset cabinets, there are countless cabinet styles to choose from. Before making your final choice, consider your budget and the style of your home. If you’re trying to keep costs low in a traditional home, an overlay cabinet with a shaker door might be the best option. If you’re looking to splurge, consider a sleek, inset cabinet.

4️⃣ Pick the right material 🪵 your cabinets will face a lot of wear and tear, so make sure you invest in durable materials (like solid wood).

5️⃣ Mix and match 🚪don’t be afraid to mix different cabinets in the same kitchen! You can mix and match different door fronts in the same color, or select different colors for your base and upper cabinets while maintaining the same style. The possibilities are endless!

The kitchen of our dreams!😍 …but actually. We’ve had multiple dreams (and nightmares) about this kitchen.

In the beginning of every kitchen renovation, we do a lot of work upfront to map out each step. But sometimes plans change.

Shipping delays and material cost increases are out of our control.

So we pivoted, put our heads together, and made cost-saving decisions to stay within our budget.

We opted for stock cabinets instead of custom, quartz instead of marble, granite instead of soapstone and stainless steel instead of panel-ready custom appliances.

And we couldn’t be happier with the result 😍
